Dubai Shopping Festival

Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) takes place every winter with its mammoth array of discounts, competitions, prizes, fireworks and entertainment. DSF offers amazing shopping discounts, attracting holiday makers from around the globe keen on grabbing a bargain.

The festival began in 1996 as an initiative of the Dubai government to promote trade, and it gets bigger and better every year. DSF is not only a retail festival, but also a family festival with a large focus on mall-based entertainment and early evening shows.

Its continued success is proven by the large number of tourists from not only the GCC, but also the rest of the world.

Traditionally, the festival runs from mid-January to the end of February and it kicks off with a huge opening night that features light shows and fireworks across the Dubai Creek, which are then continued throughout the entire festival.

Other events associated with DSF range from in-mall fashion shows, musicians, street performers, jugglers and other entertainers.

Prior to operating any business in Dubai, the steps outlined below must be undertaken in order to meet the legal requirements of all concerned government authorities and to guarantee maximum commercial benefit for the business owner:

• Determine, in the beginning, the category/categories (commercial, industrial and/or professional) and type of business activity/activities to be practiced. Please determine all the related business activities that can be included within each business license, subject to a maximum of ten activities per license.
• Determine the appropriate business legal form for your business taking into consideration the desired business activity/activities and the number and nationalities of the business owners.
• Confirm all the requirements of the license to be issued. For more details
• Determine the trade name of the business. To review the terms and conditions for the selection and approval of trade names.
• Submit an application to the Department for an Initial Approval and registering the trade name
• After getting the Initial Approval you can lease premises and contact the counter of the Planning Department of Dubai Municipality in order to verify that this said premise is suitable for the business.
• Prepare all required documents and submit an application to the Department or one of its external branches for paying the required fees to obtain a final license.
• Submit an application to one of the Department external branches for a signboard permit for a business trade name as required by the economic regulations.

Eid in Dubai

In 2008, the Dubai Events & Promotions Establishment launched ‘Eid in Dubai’ - a new social initiative aimed at reviving the true Islamic values and Emirati traditions of Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-Al-Adha celebrations. The celebrations are meant to spread the true spirit of giving and sharing between all residents of Dubai, regardless of their nationality and age, and to enhance the environment of peace and harmony that Dubai provides for all its visitors and residents.

In its first edition, the DEPE organized several activities during the period of the new initiative targeting families and visitors of Dubai during Eid. Social and cultural events were the highlights of the inaugural edition with plays, concerts, and theatre shows providing  entertainment for families in Dubai.    

Traditional celebrations such as ‘Fuwallat Al Eid’ were widespread, in addition to splendid fireworks, shopping malls and gold and jewellery promotions, hotel packages and several international concerts to make it a memorable ‘Eid in Dubai’.
